Story Time Plan: Green!

Green went well!! The nonfiction on frogs was actually really good, big photos and just simple sentence facts. I got my kids jumping and croaking like frogs. All our puppets worked well for this too, since we have a alligator, frog and turtle. The bean bag song was just ok, they wanted kids to throw beanbags into a “lake” but other songs on the CD are good. “Green Grass Grows All Around” was fun but a little hard for the toddlers.

I also did something new for my songs, which was put velcro on the back of a clear paper folder (a thing you would put in a binder) and printed large versions of the words. I think it was easier for parents, rather than the handouts we give, because most of those end up crumpled.

BOOKS:

Green by Laura Seeger                      J PICTURE SEE

Frog by Emily Green                          J 597.8 GRE

MUSIC:  “See you Later Alligator” Bean Bag Rock n Roll
              “Green Grass Grew All-Around”
Rockin’ Down the Road Greg & Steve J CD 253

SONGS:
If You’re Happy and You Know It
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands            Stomp your feet…
Shout hooray…

Green, Green
Green, green is the color I see
If you’re wearing green, then show it to me
Stand up, take a bow, turn around
Show me your green and sit back on the ground

Five Green Peas
Five green peas in a peapod, pressed
One grew, two grew, and so did all the rest
They grew and grew and they did not stop
Till one day that peapod just had to go…POP! (clap)

There Once Was a Turtle
There was a little turtle. He lived in a box.
He swam in a puddle. He climbed on the rocks.
He snapped at the mosquito.
He snapped at the flea.
He snapped at the minnow. And he snapped at me.
He caught the mosquito. He caught the flea.
He caught the minnow but he didn’t catch me!

One Little Crocodile

One little crocodile out in the swamp,
Looking around, to see what he could chomp.
He snapped at a frog, but the frog got away.
And the crocodile went home hungry that day.

One little crocodile out in the swamp,
Looking around, to see what he could chomp.
He snapped at a turtle, but the turtle got away.
And the crocodile went home hungry that day.

One little crocodile out in the swamp,
Looking around, to see what he could chomp.
But they all got away, and he didn’t catch a thing.
So he had to get his dinner at Burger King.
