Story Time Plan: Up and Down

Big hit alert! Not just because of the parachute, but the books were funny and the felt board story was awesome. I had the ultimate acknowledgment of good story time pull when one dad checked out all the books right after I was done! The preschoolers were able to do more parachute activities like popcorn with little animals and launching the chute. The chute got stuck on one of the lights at the top of our story time room which was too perfect after reading Jeffers’ Stuck. Down Down Baby had some fun dance moves and everyone stood up and squatted down through the Grand Old Duke of York.

If You’re Happy and You Know It
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands
Stomp your feet…
Shout hooray…

Grand Old Duke of York
The Grand Ol’ Duke of York,
He had ten thousand men,
He marched them up to the top of the hill
and marched them down again.
And when they were up, they were up.
And when they were down, they were down.
And when they were only halfway up,
They’re neither up nor down.

Parachute Song- Wheels on the Bus
Walked round and round..
Wipers swish, swish, swishing…
People going up and down…
Any my (and the kids’) personal favorite:
The bus through and earthquake goes rumble, rumble, rumble,
Rumble, rumble, rumble, rumble, rumble, rumble.
The bus through the earthquake goes rumble, rumble, rumble, but everyone’s O.K.!
