This project was inspired by the book Elephants Can Paint Too! by Katya Arnold. We read the book/watched the ebook version from “Between the Lions” and then watched a YouTube playlist of animals painting. We saw elephants, a dolphin, a dog, a penguin and chimpanzees painting.

After getting really excited about watching the animals paint, we jumped into our own animal-inspired painting projects. The kids were encouraged to explore and experiment with various ways to paint. The first challenge was to hold the cup/paintbrush in their mouths and paint. After this challenge, artists went on to paint with brushes taped to their hands, elbows, cheeks and noses!

We punched the paintbrush through a small cup and used a little bit of duct tape to secure them together. It ended up looking like this:
Alll in all the kids really bought into trying to paint in various ways and no one was afraid of getting too messy. It was a great time!
