Little Hands: Ribbon Pull Coffee Cans

SDC11590These coffee cans sensory items are great for babies working towards their pincer grip. They are super simple to make as well. I cleaned the cans since they have been sitting in our craft closet since god knows when, and covered them in some scrapbooking paper. I poked little slits in the tops and then cut ribbon for pulling. I used two techniques for securing the end knot, we’ll see what works best. I tied a pony bead around the bottom for the thinner ribbon and covered a knot in duct tape for the others. The photo above shows the interior of the lid, those pieces go in the can, and the babies will be able to pull the pieces sticking out.

I’m interested to see the durability and how long it takes for the lid to pop off, etc. and figure out what works best for this idea. It’s really to engage those not quite ready for paint, artists with different tactile sensations from art supplies.
